Position Summary
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center is responsible for the strategic development and operations for pediatrics inpatient services and the pediatric network in Metropolitan Baltimore and National Capital region and the clinical, academic and research administration for the Department of Pediatrics. The CAO is responsible for the affiliated hospitals and ambulatory sites staffed by the department’s physicians and harmonization of procedures and protocols across sites in the state of Maryland, and will have strong strategic alliance with the JHACH leadership team in Florida.
This role is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the strategic operational plan, along with providing management of these immediate and long-term strategic plans.
The general scope of responsibilities includes: strategic planning, financial management/analysis, budget development and execution, grants management, contract administration, compensation planning, personnel and management recruiting, utilization and productivity management, marketing, general operations of the JHCC, Department of Pediatrics and external services in the Pediatric Network and space management. The CAO will also play an important role in developing and stewarding clinical service agreements for the provision of pediatric medical and surgical services to affiliated, non-Hopkins health entities.
The CAO is responsible for the department and staff’s satisfactory compliance with the rules and regulations of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Clinical Practice Association. In addition, the CAO is responsible for assuring compliance with Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health Systems regulations. The CAO is a key contact for external relationships including industry and government affairs.
Reporting Relationships
The CAO has a matrix reporting relationship to the Pediatrician-In-Chief/Chair of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Surgeon-In Chief, the Chief Operating Officer of the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Vice Dean for Finance and Administration for the SOM.
