Job Title: Medical Collections Specialist

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid after training)

Industry: Healthcare – Revenue Cycle

Pay: $20–$23/hour

Addison Group is seeking a Medical Collections Specialist to support a value-based care client with a strong reputation in the healthcare technology and revenue cycle space. This is a contract role with high potential for long-term extension or permanent hire . The company is growing quickly and offers a collaborative, metrics-driven culture focused on improving patient care through innovative billing and reimbursement solutions.

Job Description:

This specialist will focus on resolving outstanding claims across major commercial payers such as BCBS, UHC, Aetna, and Cigna. The ideal candidate will have end-to-end experience with claims processing and be skilled at navigating payer denials, following up, and working multiple systems simultaneously. Cardiology experience is highly preferred , but strong candidates from other specialties are welcome.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage account resolution for professional claims, ensuring all follow-up and appeals are completed thoroughly
  • Review and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and payer communications
  • Submit and track medical records and documentation requests for claims
  • Use internal ticketing systems to assist in customer service requests when needed
  • Communicate effectively with payers, pushing for clarity and resolution when responses are vague or delayed
  • Meet daily productivity target of managing at least 40 patient accounts per day
  • Navigate multiple billing platforms and systems efficiently while on long payer hold times
  • Apply knowledge of various insurance plans including HMO, PPO, and value-based contracts

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in medical collections; 3–5 years preferred
  • Previous experience working with commercial payers required
  • Strong experience with claims processing (CMS-1500/837P forms)
  • Familiarity with cardiology billing is a major plus
  • Proficiency in claims management, denials follow-up, and the appeals process
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to multitask across systems
  • High school diploma required; higher education a plus

Soft Skills:

  • Strong written communication for documenting claims activity clearly and professionally
  • Confident verbal communicator—able to professionally challenge or clarify vague payer responses
  • Self-starter with a proactive mindset and attention to detail
  • Comfortable managing time independently, especially during remote work days

Additional Details:

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM during training
  • Hybrid Work: After training, schedule will be 3 days onsite, 2 days remote (fixed days to be confirmed)
  • Training: 4–5 days/week onsite initially, duration depends on individual performance
  • Location: Houston, TX 77056
