The Maine Trust for Local News is seeking an enterprising and energetic sports journalist to join its Varsity Maine staff.
This sports reporter will write stories in a variety of styles as assigned including features narratives game coverage first-person accounts columns enterprise and in digital presentations.
All of the coverage - which focuses heavily on the people and trends in Maine high school sports - should be done with balance accuracy and speed with an eye toward informing enlightening and entertaining. We need exclusive storytelling that grows our audience and has impact.
The ideal candidate will also have video-related skills or the desire to learn and embrace video production workflow.
The reporter must have excellent reporting and writing skills; a sense of urgency to beat the competition on developing news; comfort with a digital-first environment; a proven ability to file stories on deadline; and experience rounding out stories with depth and context. Applicants must also be willing to work nights and weekends.
