Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

Telemundo 51 is looking for a dynamic Traffic anchor and Reporter for our morning news and digital platforms. This role focuses on breaking traffic/news that impacts people’s routines and that showcases all our tools like Live Cams, maps, chopper and drone. This person will also work ahead on other news, traffic, transportation, big construction projects as well as community and lifestyle content for our various platforms and shows. 

• Strong ad-lib skills to calmly and effectively deliver breaking news.
• Write and update stories including breaking news for TV and digital platforms.
• Collaborate with assignment desk, producers and reporters to research and produce traffic/news segments and other content.
• Check all scripts for accuracy, grammar and punctuation.
• Use desktop editing systems to edit video including breaking news.
• Monitor and communicate breaking traffic news.
• Create effective graphics to communicate traffic content.
• Adeptly use correct social media platforms to communicate content including Website, App, Social Media, Fast channel, OTT and linear.
• Fill in anchoring or reporting on news and/or lifestyle programming, when needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of experience at a news organization that creates content under tight deadlines.
• B.A. degree or equivalent in areas such as Journalism & Communications, or related field

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be able to write on deadline with speed and accuracy.
• Must have strong ad-lib skills.
• Must be available to work overtime, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or required.
• Able to work extended and flexible hours during hurricanes, emergency situations and breaking news.
• Must possess strong journalistic skills, have ability to write and edit broadcast and digital copy.
• Must be self-directed, highly organized and detail oriented.
• Must function well in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.

Desired Characteristics:

• Experience in conversational writing for broadcast.
• Experience with WSI/Max traffic system.
• Knowledge and understanding of various media platforms, including broadcast, web, mobile and social.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Excellent news instincts with the ability to react decisively to breaking news.
• Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive news environment.
• Team player mentality.
• Creative approach to storytelling and problem solving.
• Ability to make priority decisions under deadlines.
• Ability to shoot and edit video.
